From Travel Frustration to Freedom

Being A Special Needs Mom Shaped My Mission

When you’re planning a trip for someone with mobility needs, the smallest details can make or break the experience. And yet, the travel industry still often treats accessibility like an afterthought.

As a mom to a daughter who uses a wheelchair full time, I’ve spent countless hours combing through hotel websites, only to find vague descriptions and missing information. Search filters rarely include accessibility features. And when it comes to accessible rooms? The photos are either nonexistent or missing key elements.

Let me be clear: an accessible room is not just a standard room with grab bars. The bathroom alone can determine whether a trip is possible — and yet, it’s often the least documented part of the suite. That lack of transparency is more than frustrating! It’s exclusionary.

Accessible Travel Research can be frustrating. Instead work with Travel Advisor who specializes in your specific needs, so that that planning travel can be fun again!

What I Look for First — Because I’ve Lived It

Once we’ve determined the destination or type of trip — whether it’s a cruise, resort stay, or multi-generational getaway — I immediately shift focus to the details that define accessibility. Because for travellers with mobility needs, it’s not just about where you’re going, but how comfortably and confidently you can experience it.

1. The Room Category

Is it actually designated as accessible? And what does that mean to the property? Accessibility isn’t standardized across hotels, so I dig deeper to understand what features are included — and what’s missing.

2. The Bathroom

This is the most critical space. Can a wheelchair roll up to the toilet? Is there a seat in the shower? Can you roll under the sink? These aren’t luxuries — they’re necessities. And yet, they’re rarely shown in photos online. I make sure my clients know exactly what to expect.

3. The Paths and Pools

Are there steps that need to be avoided? Is there a ramped alternative route? Is there a roll-in pool or, even better, a pool lift? And what about beach access — is a beach wheelchair available? These features are essential for travelers with mobility impairments, and I advocate for them every step of the way.

A beach wheelchair with large tires and floating armrests help those with mobility impairment enjoy the sand and water.
Beach Wheelchairs are available at select properties and help those with mobility impairments enjoy the sand and water!

From “I Don’t Know If This Is Possible” to “That was amazing!”

My goal is simple: to help my clients move from uncertainty to confidence. I want you to feel supported from the moment we start planning. I want you to relax, enjoy the process, and know that someone is thinking about the things you haven’t, so you don’t have to.

You deserve to explore the world without barriers! If you’re ready to plan a trip that’s thoughtful, luxurious, and truly inclusive, I’d love to help. Reach out and let's start planning!
